I have been living in the community of Emma for about 18 years and I have been a part of Raíces for 6 years. I really enjoy working with the children and youth of the community. I like to learn from them and they motivate me to keep learning together about our culture and dance.

I'm from Mexico. I have been living in Asheville for 15 years. I am very happy to be a co-director of Raíces Emma - Erwin. I love working with the children.

ART AND CULTURE COORDINATOR FOR EMMA AND EBLEN SCHOOLS

I’m originally from Mexico, and the beautiful state of Hidalgo. I have two girls who have participated with Raíces since the program was founded. I love it because it is a place where children have fun and learn where their parents are from and we really enjoy remembering our own childhood.

INSTRUCTOR, BALLET FOLKLÓRICO RAICES

Originally from Zitacuaro Michoacan, Mexico, I have been dancing Mexican Folklórico since I was a child and, in college, was a member of the Mexican Ballet at the University of Michoacan. When I moved to the U.S., I founded Mexican Folkloric Ballet of Asheville. I’m excited to be working with Latine teenagers through Ballet Folklórico Raíces, sharing my talent and experience and explaining the cultural significance of each dance.

YOUTH INSTRUCTOR

I live in Emma and am a member of the Ballet Folklórico Raíces program. I work as a youth instructor for Raíces elementary and middle school age classes. I love working with younger children and think it’s so important to share our culture.

YOUTH INSTRUCTOR

I’ve been dancing with Raíces for nine years, currently with the Ballet Folklórico Raíces program, & have been a youth instructor for almost three years. I like many things about being an instructor but my favorite is when the kids are struggling to learn a step or movement and I’m able to help them and encourage them through the process of learning. I love seeing their smile of accomplishment.
